MH17 Mystery: New Intelligence pinpoints Russian control of Ukraininan Rebels By GEO´Newsdesk Team City of London Newsroom After years of tense investigations, the Dutch-led Joint Investigative Team (JIT) announced in late June the names of four suspects, all of them pro-Russia militants, who they claim played a key part in the destruction of the jet. The JIT is confident the plane was brought down by a Russian BUK surface-to-air missile fired from the rebel-controlled territory. An international inquiry into the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 believes high-level Russian officials were directing separatists in eastern Ukraine linked to the attack. Welcome to my daily review and roundup of the key stories and factors affecting Geopolitics Today on Wednesday, 11 March 2020.  CORONAVIRUS: For the third week running Coronavirus grabs all the column inches as the World tries to come to terms with the short, intermediate and long-term impact of the outbreak on global Geopolitics. UK Health minister Nadine Dorries has tested positive for the Covid-19 virus causing widespread alarm as to who else in the cabinet could have also been infected. Ms Dorries, the first MP to test positive, said she had taken all the advised precautions after finding out and has been self-isolating at home. Here is my round-up of the trending global factors affecting Geopolitics Today - Tuesday, 10 March 2020 ... AGAIN CORONAVIRUS dominates the news with Italy waking up to its first day of "lockdown" as Italy extends emergency measures nationwide which include travel restrictions and a ban on public gatherings, to the entire country. Italy's coronavirus death toll jumped from 366 to 463 on Monday. It is the worst-hit country after China with cases of the virus have been confirmed in all 20 Italian regions. Italy's first confirmed case is out of ICU for the first time since he tested positive for the virus on 21 February. The death toll in the country stands at 463. South Korea has also announced its smallest daily increase for two weeks prompting comment that the virus may be releasing its grip on Asia and heading for pastures new. Meanwhile, foreign diplomats are finally being allowed to leave Pyongyang after long quarantine and the cruise ship rejected by Thailand & Malaysia has been allowed to dock in Singapore tomorrow ... ASIAN STOCK MARKETS fell sharply this morning as oil prices go completely off the boil. North Korea resumes missile testing with first launches of the year Dan Carter - GEO´ Newsdesk Team City of London Newsroom North Korea has resumed missile tests in the first such launches of 2020. South Korea´s Military have said that two unidentified missiles were launched from the North's east coast towards the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea. These are the first such tests since NK resumed testing last May [2019] after an 18-month cessation, of course many more followed as the year went on, in fact the last time North Korea conducted a missile test was back in November last year [2019] when it announced that it was testing a "super-large multiple-rocket launcher". North Korea has historically stepped up missile testing in the spring for apparent tactical or strategic reason.
